Creating Affordable Housing

Vacant Home Rehabilitation

Creekside is working with interested homebuyers to renovate 11 vacant homes in the Jefferson-Chalmers neighborhood. Creekside has an innovative lease-purchase option available to homebuyers who might find it difficult to obtain a mortgage right away.

This lease-purchase model is then supplemented with rigorous homeownership and financial counseling to holistically encourage successful homeowners.
If you would like to move to the Jefferson – Chalmers neighborhood and enjoy a beautifully restored historic home, you can fill out Creekside’s Vacant Home Rehabilitation Questionnaire

City of Detroit Home Repair

The City of Detroit home repair program allows residents to make general repairs to their homes. The money received to complete repairs is a grant and does not need to be repaid. However, there is a 36 month lien on the property.

In order to be eligible, community members must:

MSHDA Home Repair

Creekside also offers home repair with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority. Throughout 2009 and 2010, Creekside will distribute more than $210,000 through its MSHDA Home Repair Program.

Community members must meet the same criteria for the MSHDA program as the City of Detroit program.

The MSHDA Home Repair program is a loan. The loan is 100% deferred with no interest until the property is sold. The loan only has to be paid back when the owner sells the house. Half the loan is forgiven if the owner is still living in the house 5 years later.

If you would like to apply for either program, please complete the pre-application here.

In addition to leveraging these resources, Creekside also works with area homeowners to access more home repair tools such as MSHDA PIP Loans, FHLBI NIP funds and Clear Corps lead remediation funds
